The story
FlagSwing was developed in Sarasota, Florida, out of one golfer’s decade-long fight with a slice.
Its founder, a longtime law enforcement officer, started playing golf again after retiring from the SWAT team in 2024, only to run straight into the same fault that had plagued his game for years: a slice that too often turned into a shank.
A neighbor, friend and PGA teaching professional bet him $100 he could fix that shank in three swings. He set a spare ball just off the real one, at a 45-degree angle, and told him he’d hit both balls. He gave it his best swing, and sure enough, both balls went flying. Three shots later, he knew exactly what he had to fix.
The problem was practicing it. A spare ball on the ground works in a lesson with no one around, but on a crowded range or course it’s a real risk to anyone standing nearby. Anything else put in its place, a head cover or some other object, would go flying just the same if it got hit. He searched for something safer and simpler, but found nothing worth buying: just training devices and launch monitors that were expensive, bulky, and the last thing anyone wants to haul to the range.
With the help of a friend, he designed FlagSwing: a small stake with a flag attached that takes the place of that spare ball. Swing true, and the flag stays exactly where it was set. Come over the top, and it spins. No risk: just reset it and swing again.
The habit that once had him scoring in the high 80s and low 90s is gone. He’s now shooting in the upper 70s and low 80s.
